Hi, I’m Chris. A co-founder of GizmoDirt. I grew up in the suburbs but was taught to garden from my father from the get-go. Every year we had a garden. we canned and froze vegetables every year and ate them year round. After leaving home I was always drawn back to that. Every place I lived, be it an apartment in the city or my current place in the country, I’ve always grown something. As I’ve expanded my understanding of things, I have come to place an increasing interest in self-sufficiency, sustainability, and efficiency. I want to develop tools and methods that are fast, easy, and effective without the use of unsustainable and potentially harmful chemicals.
While I’ve always loved playing in the dirt, my other hobby is playing with anything mechanical. So, while some would like to say it’s harmful to the environment, I believe the smart, and effective use of mechanical implements in agriculture is required for larger scale gardening. My goal is to establish the most effective use of mechanical help as well as efficient tools to make the most out of ever drop of fuel.
Finally, with a growing family … I’ve come to realize how enjoyable it is to teach gardening to my children. Raising them to understand the value of growing your own food and working in the soil is the single most enjoyable thing I can do. So, I hope that as I learn through the experiences of GizmoDirt … I can grow and teach others what I’ve discovered along the way.
